About us
The Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS is a leading institute within the German Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, specializing in smart sensor systems for a safe, secure, and sustainable future. In medical applications, we develop innovative solutions for personalized non-invasive monitoring, in-vitro diagnostics, and neural implants.
Key competencies:
• Optical systems: High-performance Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPAD) detectors with ultra-low noise, sub-nanosecond timing, customizable designs, and full system miniaturization.
• Biochemical sensors: Functionalized Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) for highly sensitive detection of biomolecules with real-time optical readout.
• AI-enhanced analysis: Embedded AI for real-time signal processing and optical vital-sign analytics using standard cameras.
• Neural implants: Clinically approved hydrocephalus shunt system with in-house pressure sensors, wireless power, and data links.
At MD&M West, we present our SPAD technologies, SWCNT biosensor platforms, and AI-supported measurement systems, including real-time vital-sign monitoring via smartphone camera. Our solutions empower partners to create next-generation medical sensors with enhanced efficiency and sensitivity.
We offer proof-of-concept studies, prototype development, chip design, sputter deposition services, and more, including collaboration in publicly funded projects.
